A franchise can reduce some of the uncertainty of starting a business, but it does not remove business risk. The best decisions come from comparing facts, testing assumptions and getting independent advice.
Why Amul franchise remains a high-intent search in 2026
Recent 2026 entrepreneur discussions continue to ask how to open an Amul outlet, what it costs and whether it is profitable. AmulFed Dairy has reported more than 9,000 Amul Preferred Outlets, giving the format wide recognition. Brand scale can attract walk-ins, but a new outlet still depends on rent, local dairy demand, evening footfall, refrigeration reliability and the mix between low- and higher-margin products.
Use only the official Amul enquiry details
Amul publishes retail@amul.coop and 022-68526666 for parlour or franchise enquiries on its official contact page. Its shopping site explicitly warns about fake websites collecting money for dealerships and franchises. Verify every caller, location approval, proposal and beneficiary through amul.com or the published company contact before paying. Do not trust sponsored search ads, lookalike domains or personal bank accounts.
What is included in the investment? What support continues after launch? Which assumptions drive the payback estimate?
APO, kiosk and scooping parlour are different formats
The official format page groups Amul Preferred Outlet, railway parlour and kiosk around a compact packaged-product model, while an Ice-Cream Scooping Parlour needs more space and serves recipe-based items. Railway locations additionally depend on railway allotment. Choose the format from catchment, shop area, food-service capability and capital—not merely from the lowest headline investment.
Official cost benchmarks need a fresh 2026 quotation
Amul's official business-opportunity page publishes about ₹2 lakh for a 100–150 sq ft APO, including ₹25,000 refundable brand security, renovation and equipment, and about ₹6 lakh for a scooping parlour above 300 sq ft, including ₹50,000 non-refundable brand security, interiors and equipment. These are public indicative figures; rent deposit, stock, licences and working capital are additional and the company should confirm current costs.
Understand the published margin table correctly
The official page lists average returns on MRP of about 2.5% for pouch milk, 10% for milk products and 20% for ice cream in the compact format. It describes about 50% on recipe-based scoops, sundaes and selected prepared items, about 20% on pre-packed ice cream and roughly 10% on other products in the scooping format. These are gross category margins, not net profit after outlet expenses.
Build the complete cash-required sheet
Add property deposit, rent, GST where applicable, civil and electrical work, power backup, deep freezer, visicooler, milk cooler, scooping cabinet, POS, opening inventory, FSSAI registration or licence, local trade permissions, staff, packaging, cleaning, delivery integration and several months of working capital. Confirm equipment-support conditions and who owns subsidised equipment at renewal, relocation or exit.
Daily product mix decides store economics
Calculate contribution separately from milk, curd and paneer, packaged ice cream, beverages, value-added dairy and freshly assembled scoops or snacks. Then deduct expiry, melting, electricity, aggregator commission, discounts, salaries, rent and owner time. A store can report healthy sales but weak profit if most revenue comes from low-margin pouch milk or if prepared-item demand is concentrated on weekends.
Cold-chain and wastage controls cannot be optional
Record refrigerator temperatures, delivery condition, batch and expiry, freezer downtime, power backup and damaged stock daily. Clarify who bears loss from delayed supply, freezer failure, expired inventory and interrupted electricity. Follow manufacturer storage instructions and FSSAI hygiene requirements, especially when the outlet prepares sundaes, shakes, sandwiches or other ready-to-eat items.
Test the location before signing a long lease
Count morning household demand, student and office traffic, evening family visits, nearby dairy and ice-cream competitors, parking, delivery access and seasonal variation. Model a normal month, summer peak and winter slowdown. Ask the supply team which products and delivery frequencies are available in the exact territory; a strong national catalogue does not mean every SKU reaches every outlet consistently.
Amul franchise pre-payment checklist
Contact Amul directly, obtain written location approval, a current itemised cost sheet, product margin schedule, supply route and draft terms. Speak with nearby operating and exited outlet owners, inspect refrigeration and verify FSSAI and local requirements. Review security deposit, equipment support, territory, stock expiry, pricing, online delivery, relocation and exit terms. JustStartup is not affiliated with Amul and does not allot its outlets or guarantee returns.
