A franchise can reduce some of the uncertainty of starting a business, but it does not remove business risk. The best decisions come from comparing facts, testing assumptions and getting independent advice.
What can realistically fit below ₹10 lakh?
Compact tea and beverage counters, snack kiosks, carts, takeaway units and selected cloud-kitchen formats may fit this range. A full dine-in restaurant usually needs more property, equipment, staff and working capital, so compare formats rather than forcing a large concept into a small budget.
Separate the franchise fee from the total opening cost
Ask for the fee, security deposit, civil work, counter and signage, kitchen equipment, exhaust, electrical work, licences, technology, opening stock, uniforms, recruitment and launch marketing as separate line items. Add applicable taxes and a contingency.
What is included in the investment? What support continues after launch? Which assumptions drive the payback estimate?
Keep working capital outside the fit-out budget
The outlet still needs rent, salaries, utilities, ingredients, packaging and local promotion while sales build. Prepare a conservative monthly cash-flow plan and retain a runway instead of spending the complete ₹10 lakh before opening day.
Test food economics one menu item at a time
Review selling price, ingredient cost, packaging, wastage, platform commission, discount and preparation time for the best-selling items. Average food-cost percentages can hide loss-making products and an order mix that is difficult to operate.
Choose a location that matches the ticket size
A low average bill needs enough repeat transactions. Count target customers during the hours you will trade, assess visibility and delivery density, then compare rent with conservative sales—not with peak weekend footfall.
Verify supply, hygiene and licence support
Confirm which ingredients are mandatory, freight cost, minimum order quantity, shelf life and replacement policy. Also define responsibility for food registration, local permissions, fire safety, pest control, staff hygiene and quality audits.
Ask existing partners for actual operating numbers
Speak to both mature and recently opened outlets. Ask about daily bills, average order value, gross margin, rent, staff count, royalty, delivery mix, wastage, support response and the time taken to reach stable sales.
Treat guaranteed profit and urgent-payment claims as warning signs
A franchise cannot remove location, execution and market risk. Validate the company, trademark, agreement, outlet network and financial assumptions independently, and do not transfer a non-refundable fee only because a territory is said to be closing today.
